Electrician SEO guide

How electricians get
found on Google.

Homeowners search for an electrician when something is wrong or when they are planning a bigger job. This is what actually moves an independent electrician up in local search, in the order I would do it, with no promises about rankings.

What homeowners type,
in their words.

The "near me" and "[city]" searches are mostly answered by the map results at the top, which come from Google listings. The job searches (panel, EV charger) are answered by pages on your site.

Seven steps, in order.

Steps 1, 4, 5 and 6 cost nothing. Steps 2, 3 and 7 are content for your site. None of this guarantees a ranking, and results take weeks to months.

1. Claim and verify your Google listing

Choose "Electrician" as your main category, then add only the extra categories you really serve, such as electrical installation or EV charger installation. If you travel to customers and have no storefront, hide your address and set your service area. The full steps are in the listing setup guide.

2. Give every paying job its own page

A panel upgrade customer and a "my outlet stopped working" customer want different answers. Write a short page for each core job: what it involves, when to call, how your estimate works and the area you cover. Do not paste the same text with the city swapped.

3. Put your license and insurance where people look

Show your license number where your state expects it, along with your insurance and that you pull permits. Homeowners are letting you into their wiring, and this is the first thing they check.

4. Be easy to reach

A call button on every page, hours that are accurate, and emergency service listed only if you will answer. A missed call goes to the next electrician on the map.

5. Ask every customer for a review

Send your Google review link or QR code after each job. Reviews in a customer's own words tend to mention the job, which helps. Never offer a discount or payment for a review, and do not only ask the customers you expect to be happy. Google prohibits both.

6. Keep your details identical everywhere

Use the same business name, phone number and service area on your site, Google, Yelp, BBB, Apple Maps and Bing. Mismatches confuse both customers and search engines.

7. Show real work

Photos of real panels, chargers and installs, and your truck, on your site and your Google listing. They show a homeowner who they are inviting in.

Six things,
nothing more.

Four things that
backfire.

Electrician SEO, answered.

How long does electrician SEO take?

There is no fixed answer. A new site and Google listing can be live in days, and Google typically reviews a listing in 1 to 5 business days after verification, but ranking in search takes weeks to months and depends on your market and competition.

Do I need a website if I have a Google listing?

Yes, it helps a lot. The listing gets you into the map results. Customers who click through want to see your services, your license and your area, and the job searches such as "panel upgrade" are answered by pages on your site.

How many pages should an electrician website have?

Enough to cover each job that pays, plus the basics: home, services, service areas, about, reviews and contact. FieldTender builds a six-page site, with each core job written as its own section.

Should I list every city I might serve?

Only the ones you actually work in. A page for an area you do not serve will not help, and customers there will be disappointed. Write real details for each area you do cover.

Can I do this myself, or should someone do it for me?

You can do it yourself with this page and the listing setup guide. If you would rather spend the time on jobs, FieldTender builds the site and Google listing for you: $1,197 once plus $19 a month for hosting, no minimum term, before sales tax.
